The Afterbeat Drum School offers private and group drum & percussion lessons to students of all ages and abilities. Lessons are customized to meet the skill level, interest and learning style of each student. Drum lessons at the Afterbeat teach students an understanding of rhythm, groove, dynamics and independence on the drums.

Private lessons are available on an on-going basis. 

Group Lessons:

Introduction to Drum Set – this beginner level class will provide an overview of the drum set. Students will learn basic drum beats and fills, as well as simple song structures. Everyone will have a chance to do a recording project.

Afro-Cuban Rhythms for Kids –this hand percussion class will teach students basic Rumba Rhythms and simple improvisation. Students will learn about the history of the Cuban Rumba and its role in Cuban culture.

Samba Drumming – this hand percussion class teaches the basics of Samba drumming where each student in the group plays a different percussion instrument and has a unique role in the group. The class will culminate in a Samba Drumming Parade through the streets of downtown Louisville!
